Effective Copywriting

‘Things to consider when writing content for WebPages
AIDA
Attention. Interest. Desire. Action
Attention comes first. Draw the attention of the reader, then you can progress to encourage interest in the product you are trying to sell.
If you have gained the readers attention and also managed to get their interest, you then stir up the desire in the reader to take action and buy the product.
In order to gain interest and stir up desire, you need to be very clever in your writing. Every product you consider selling should have something unique about it. To find something unique in a product you would need to look at the benefit of the product. For example, selling a certain brand of earphones for an Ipod, it could be that those earphones benefit the user because they have a protective sound pad to protect the eardrum. That’s a benefit, so that is the USP (Unique Selling Point)
So, write about the benefit rather than the product. Start of with the biggest benefit first and then go on to writing other benefits.
Once you implement all the benefits of a product in your write up, if done well, this will attract the desire for the reader to want the product. If the reader is then led to want the product enough, they will purchase that product. This is the end action that you want the user to take.
Here are other things to consider
- Look at what features the product has and then sell the benefit
- Find power triggers for the headlines (Trigger Words)
- Stir the emotions
- Never use capitals in headers
- Begin each word in headers with a capital
- Never over estimate the intelligence of your readers
Before you decide on what content to write for your products, look at what your competitors are doing. Look at their write up, what is their unique selling point? Did they do a good job on their write up, or did they concentrate on the product rather than the benefit of the product?
If they concentrated on the product itself then you already have an advantage over them.rnrnWhen writing about products, you can state the obvious, “Macromedia Fireworks, enables to you manipulate images to suit the design of your website”, well don’t most drawing programs do that? Well, possibly, but do they all state it?
As I said, never underestimate the intelligence of your readers.rnrnFinally (although we could go on forever) make your headlines punchy.
80% of readers scan the headlines, it is at that point they will decide whether the rest of the content is worth reading, so make sure your headlines are interesting and effective, take time on your headlines, take even more time on your title, this will be the deciding factor as to whether your visitor will read on or click the back button to go to another page
